On board our gulet we discover the archipelago of the Eolie Islands, tracing the steps of history from the active volcanoes to the seas and ash and lava deserts. The Eolie archipelago is made up of seven islands: Lipari, Vulcano, Salina, Panarea, Stromboli, Filicudi and Alicudi. All the islands are different and full of contrasting scenery: from the black sand beaches of Vulcano and Stromboli to the pristine white sand of Lipari, and from the eruptions of Stromboli to the fumarole of Vulcano. The constant beautiful blue sea is one of the exceptions to this vision of the archipelago.

  • - Gulet trip in one of the most beautiful archipelagos of the Mediterranean
  • - Stromboli and the night time trekking trip to witness the eruptions
  • - The Eolie Islands, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites
 ITINERARY

Arrival at Catania airport and make your own way (allow approximately 2 hours) to the port of Milazzo to board our boat bound for the Eolie Islands. From 16.30 you can board the gulet and check into your cabins. Depending on your arrival time, you can visit the medieval village of Milazzo. At 19.00 is the welcome meeting (including a complimentary cocktail) with your guide who will brief you on the itinerary for the week. Dinner and overnight on board the gulet in Milazzo.
(3hrs walking, ascent/descent + 390m – 390m) In the morning transfer to the Island of Vulcano, well-known for its thermal mud and gas fumaroles. Free time for your first dip in the sea or simply relax by one of the many beaches or hot thermal springs on the island. In the afternoon we walk to the crater of Vulcano. Dinner and overnight on board in Vulcano.
(3hrs walking, ascent/descent + 250m – 250m) Transfer to the Island of Lipari, the capital of the Eolie Islands, famous for its castle (dating back to the 16th Century), which rises majestically with its titanic bastions right above the sea. We hike around the south of Lipari, between vineyards and terraces overlooking the sea. In the afternoon we set sail for the north, stopping briefly at the famous beach where we can see the pumice stone (“Pietra Pomice”) and head for the Island of Salina. Dinner and overnight on board in the port of Salina.
(4hrs walking, ascent/descent + 150m – 290m) In the morning we take a short trip sailing along the south coast of the Island of Salina. We disembark at the little port of Rinella and transfer by bus in order to enjoy our trekking along the coast of Monte dei Porri and down to the beautiful bay of Pollara (used as a backdrop in many films). Stop for a swim, then lunch is served on board as we sail towards Stromboli. Dinner and overnight on board. In the evening we can admire the eruptions of Stromboli.
(5hrs walking, ascent/descent + 924m – 924m) In the morning we tour the islands by boat, with stops in the quaint village of Ginostra and swimming on the small island of Strombolicchio. Lunch is served on board and in the afternoon we visit the volcanology centre of Stromboli, before heading with our volcanologist guide to the top of Stromboli, safely enjoying the explosive activity at night. We enjoy dinner in a pizzeria in Stromboli before spending the night on board the gulet.
