A wonderful tour around the Syracuse region, visiting some of the most splendidly uncrowded and rugged landscape in all Italy. We can see deep rocky gorges where thousands of rock-cut tombs pocket the cliffs, Greek theatres on lonely plateaus, ancient battlefields, quiet hilltop villages, each with beautiful churches and stubborn people. The Valle dell’Anapo, the awesome Cava Grande, and the remote Pantalica plateau with its cliff faces of rock tombs. Birds on the main European migration route have a major preserve set aside for them at Vendicari. And then there is Noto herself, a World Heritage town of honey-Baroque splendour.
