Skyrunning means running at high altitude. An extreme challenge that can be described as a mixture of decisive factors as: running over long distances, the altitude, the slopes, mountains’ dangers and the weather conditions often prohibitive and changeable at high altitude. The Skyrunning disciplines are: 1. the SkyMarathon that covers the same distance of the classical Marathon (42,195 Km) and reaches 4000 mt 2. the SkyRace that can be longer or shorter then the classical Marathon (42,195 km) and reaches 3000 mt 3. the Vertical Kilometre that covers 1000 slope over a distance ranging from 3 to 5 Km. It is considered as the first approach to the other 2 disciplines The first world Skyrunning championship took place in 1998 in Cervinia (Italy) and if you are interested to the official 2007 Federation for Sports at Altitude calendar, you can have a look at their official web site: http://www.fsa-sky.org/new/index.php Among the others: Nov 04th Etna SkyMarathon.
