Etna: Eruption 08 June 2008 The last sismic events have given the sign of a new Etna's wakening (by now a periodic phenomenon in the last ten years), and the volcanic sand emission over the villages of the north-east Etna's flank. The eruption started on 10th may in the south-east crater, and on 13th may in the Valley of the Leon.

A spectacular lava flow toward the Valley of the Oxen allows a wonderful panorama from Catania hinterland. Lava flow has reached 1350 m s.l., and in the site of the active crater (at 2800 s.l.) some small earthquakes have been noticed. Until now there is no alarm for the people of the neighbourhood, thanks to the low risk of this phenomenon, because the direction of lava is the volcanic desert of the Valley of the Oxen. But nowadays people remember again the dramatic eruptive events of 2002-2003, when the arbitrary fury of nature destroyed and burnt all the tourist facilities. Luckily, this time the volcanic vent is the goal of tourists' curiosity, thanks to the amazing landscape visible from many points of Catania's province. A warning is not to do excursion alone, but with an expert guide to avoid any kind of danger. A suggestion for seeing this wonderful scenario is walking along a hidden path toward Zoccolaro mount, in Zafferana territory. More info... L'Etna in attività Dopo la corta eruzione del 10 Maggio (circa 6 ore), l’Etna ha dato dei segnali più forti e importanti martedì 13 Maggio 2008 provocando, nella stessa giornata, circa una sessantina di scosse sismiche e l’apertura di due fessure ad est del cratere Sud – Est.Il giorno seguente, le fessure hanno dato luogo alla formazione di due colate laviche (da 3.000 mt e 2.900 mt) dirette verso la Valle del Bove.Il 21 maggio la colata lavica si è fermata a quota 2.200 mt, mentre gli avvenimenti sismici continuano a susseguirsi ma con bassa intensità (da 1,1° a 2° della scala Richter ).

The summer has arrived. As usual, the problem of animals' abandonment comes to light.

During this season people wonder where to go on holidays, but the owners of dogs, cats and small domestic pets asks themselves where to leave their beloved companion. The facts show that, still nowadays, the most used solution is the abandonment.

The certain destiny of an abandoned pet on the road is death, unless it is saved by some animalist association. They die because of cars, because of their incapability in looking for food by themselves or because they are left bound to a pole without anything to eat or drink.

It should not be forgot that a lost animal wandering in the streets is a danger for all the car drivers. The car crashes caused by abandoned animals are quite frequent.
Also, we should remind that who abandons an animal is liable to the law. The abandonment is a penal crime.

Why such problem?

Your pet can come on holidays with you. He needs an holidays as well. By train,
by plane, by ship, your companion can escort you during your travel. And once arrived, farm holidays, B&B, camping and hotels will be happy to welcome you and your friend.

You need to ask before booking if the accommodation you have chosen accepts pets and explain clearly its dimensions and needs. Some hotels provide a service of dog sitter, specific meals, special beds and suitable spaces upon request. Also, hotels often have rooms with small gardens or balconies. Before leaving do not forget to bring your pets’ accessories and the documents stating the vaccinations and the good health of the animal.
