A tour of Eastern Sicily, pedalling through wonderful landscapes and a variegate and colourful nature. An original way to discover the Park of Etna, the provinces of Messina, Siracusa, Ragusa, Catania and Enna with their archaeological, cultural and natural riches, savouring their more authentic scents and colours. You will cross Noto’s Valley, from this year included in Unesco World Heritage. Following the vestiges of ancient cultures, this tour joins together the discovery of beautiful untouched areas, such as Etna Park, the highest active volcano in Sicily; Alcantara Valley, deep gorges cut on the lava rocks by a river  and Vendicari, a protected piece of white beach where many different species of birds build their nests. We will also discover some of the most ancient Sicilian towns: Syracuse, Taormina, Piazza Armerina and Caltagirone.

Day 1: Catania/Giardini Naxos (48,5 km)
Arrival at Catania airport. Tour by bike towards Giardini Naxos. Accommodation in Hotel*** and dinner at Giardini Naxos.

Day 2: Giardini Naxos/Taormina (75 km)
We bike up to Taormina, the most beautiful medieval city in Sicily and free time to explore the Greek theatre and the historical centre of the town. We reach also Scifi and Roccafiorita. Overnight stay in Giardini Naxos.

Day 3: Giardini Naxos/Randazzo (48 km).
Alcantara Tour. Alcantara is one of the most important rivers of Sicily famous for its splendid gorges. It has its source in Nebrodi Mountains, at 1,250 m of altitude near Floresta, and it runs for about 50 km before flowing into the sea near Capo Schisò. Chance to visit characteristics smalls Sicilians village like Francavilla di Sicilia and Castiglione. Accommodation in Hotel*** and dinner at Randazzo.

Day 4: Etna Challengers (129 km)
Today is the highlights of the trip, the ascent of Mount Etna. We reach Rifugio Sapienza. Overnight stay in Randazzo.

Day 5 : Randazzo/Enna (107 km)
From Randazzo on a panoramic road on the south west of Etna we reach Enna, characteristic medieval village. Accommodation in Hotel*** and dinner at Enna.

Day 6: Enna (80 km)
Free time to explore the Lombardia Castle, the cathedral and the historical centre of the town or tour by bike about 80 km. Dinner free. Overnight stay in Hotel*** at Enna.

Day 7: Enna/Vizzini (90 km)
We bike up to Vizzini. We reach Piazza Armerina and Caltagirone. Accommodation in Farm Holidays and dinner at Vizzini.

Day 8: Vizzini/Modica (65 km)
Bike tour from Vizzini to the village of Modica. Breathtaking panoramas all the way down to Modica. Accommodation in hotel and dinner in Modica.

Day 9: Modica/Marzamemi (121,5 km)
Today we bike through almonds fields and cherry tomatoes cultivations through a route along the southernmost coast of Sicily. We pass through the fisherman village of Marzamemi, famous for its very old tuna fisheries. We continue towards the region of Noto. Dinner free and Overnight stay in Hotel*** at Modica.

Day 10: Modica/Siracusa (94 km)
Today we bike to Syracuse, one of Italian’s most important Archaeological centre. Syracuse was the capital of the “Magna Grecia” and the birthplace of Archimede. Accommodation in a lovely B&B in Ortigia, the Syracuse’s old city centre. Dinner free. Overnight stay with breakfast included.

Day 11: Siracusa/Catania (99 km)
Bike tour from Vizzini to Catania. This city shows many baroque churches and buildings, all placed in the very heart of the city centre. Dinner and overnights stay in hotel with breakfast included.

Day 12: Departure
Transfer to Catania Airport.

Notes: Legs from 48 to 129 Km per day. Total about 860 km. This trip is rated moderate and will be enjoyed by anyone who is physically fit and likes to bike. The riding is challenging with some hilly itinerary with chances to meet deep slopes, parts rated strenuous. Since some of the roads we bike on are steep, hiking and biking to condition yourself prior to the trip is necessary.
