Following the sandals footsteps of St. Francis and the frescoes by Giotto and Perugino, a great crossing of mystical places and cultural life in the territory of Umbria.
From Assisi, the town at the bottom of Mount Subasio Natural Park, the place of the conversion of Francis which houses the marvelous Basilica frescoes by Giotto. Walking to Spello, a small medieval village set up between the vineyards and the hills, following the paths of the Franciscan friars. The elegant and noble Perugia, the wild shores of Trasimeno lake, along the ancient roads to Panicale, a tiny architectural gem overlooking the Umbrian countryside and the lake. Città della Pieve, a red-brick town on the border with Tuscany, the birthplace of the painter Perugino. And finally, Orvieto, the city built on a hill of tuff dominated by the magnificent cathedral.

Individual arrival in Assisi. Assisi is one of the most mystical places in Italy. It rises under the Subasio Mountain, protected by lush Oakwood and its historical centre is very well preserved. The amazing Basilica of St. Francis, preserves the frescoes painted by Giotto, and is also a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dinner and overnight in Hotel in Assisi. Following the steps of St. Francis, from the historical centre of Assisi to the Eremo delle Carceri, the mystical place where the Franciscan friars lived. Walking on paths inside the huge Oakwood of Monte Subasio Natural Park and through the vineyards to Spello, a wonderful medieval village that dominates the typical Umbrian countryside. Train to the noble and elegant Perugia with the Palazzo dei Priori, St. Lorenz Cathedral, home of bacci chocolates and the paintings of Perugino, one of the most important Italian painters. Starting from the beautiful Trasimeno Lake and its islands, walking on an ancient path through the vineyards to Panicale, a real medieval jewel. Overnight in an agriturismo with swimming pool in Panicale. (Meals: B,D) (3,30 hours hiking, +215 mt - 215 mt, 7 km)
Today an immersion in the typical Umbrian countryside: vineyards and olives, villas and farms, make up the landscape of this easy walking day. From the old Church of Cappuccini to the historical centre of Panicale, with narrow cobbled stone streets, churches and fountains. Overnight in agriturismo with swimming pool in Panicale. (Meals: B,D) (5 - 5,30 hours hiking, + 500 – 400 mt, 18 km)
The path you’ll follow today links two of the ancient and attractive Umbrian medieval villages: Panicale and Città della Pieve. The ancient route of Via Romea, was travelled by friars and pilgrims coming from northern Europe heading to Rome. The landscape is mainly hilly and wooded. Overnight in Hotel in Città della Pieve. Private transfer to Chiusi railway station. Train to Orvieto (30min). Accommodation in a B&B in the historical centre. The beautiful Orvieto rises on a tufaceous hill in the middle of the Umbrian countryside. Home to an impressive Cathedral, one of the most important in Italy, a well-preserved medieval town center and a very interesting underground network of tunnels. The easy walk today will ensure you discover the amazing tuff valley that surrounds Orvieto, meandering between small villages and farms. Overnight in Hotel/B&B in Orvieto. (Meals: B)
