Mt Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe. It offers a variety of different aspects, from black flows of lava and vast plains of black sand to a luxuriant vegetation on its lower slopes. It rises to 3350 m above sea level at the summit craters, but this height varies as a result of on-going constructive and destructive explosive activity that constantly reshapes the summit crater area.

Important: Due to the unpredictable nature of the volcanoes and the weather condition, the program can be modified. In any case we always try to adhere as much as possible to the described program. The access to Etna crater is generally allowed, however this can change at any time. The volcano guides reserve the right to decide whether or not to climb to the Etna craters according to safety measures, the weather and also the physical condition of the trekkers. Mandala Tour is not responsible in case of impossibility to reach the summit craters. An alternative trekking at lower altitude is always organised.

Skill level: demanding, 5 to 6 hours walking each day, hilly-to-steep terrain. A prior hiking experience is recommended. On day 2 and 3 you have to bring your own sleeping bag and airbed. Also the food for the pick nick, the dinner, the breakfast have to be shared and carried by all the components of the group.

Departure:   All year (from December to April with snow shoes)

Accommodation :

• 1 night in comfortable mountain hut (dormitory from 2 to 4 beds, toilets in common),
• 1 night with sleeping bags and airbed on mountain hut (no WC),
• 1 nights in hotel*** on the Etna south,
• 2 nights in Hotel** Catania. Hotel accommodation in double or triple room.

Equipment: Sleeping bag (-15° in winter, - 5° fall and spring, 0° in summer), snow shoes (from December to April), good and solid trekking boots, frontal torch with batteries, wind stopper jacket, hat and gloves, sun glasses and sun hat, trekking trousers and shorts, bathing suit, sun cream, multitask knife, plastic box for food and cutlery for packet lunches, alpenstock and gators for volcanic ash path
