The first Charity Challenge on Mt Etna

From Thursday May 24th to Monday May 28th a group of English people,  challenges themselves up to the highest active volcano in Europe. 3 demanding days of hiking to conquer Mt Etna.

The program starts in Taormina, where the group gets prepared for the expedition.  The first challenge for the group is the 37 Km over the track called "Pista Altomontana" that makes the tour of Mt Etna between an altitude of 1600 m and 2000 m, crossing amazing forests and lava flows. The challenge starts from the "Pineta Ragabo" a huge wood on the northern side of Mt Etna. After 23 Km of walk and the night spent on bivouac, the group ends on the southern side of the volcano.

A good night of rest and then, on Sunday, the extreme challenge: climbing up 3340 mt on the top of the volcano. The weather conditions were not excellent but the group made it!

As arranged, a portion of the money spent on this travel has been donated to the Mother Teresa sisters of Catania. They run a refectory open to all the poor people of the town.
