Mt Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe. It offers a varied of different aspects, from the black flows of lava and vast plain of black sand to a luxuriant vegetation on the lower slopes. There Mt Etna abounds with oak and chestnut forests, alternated by ancient man-made terraces where premier quality vineyards, pears and apple orchards, hazelnut and pistachio groves  grow.
Mt Etna has a boundary of 250 Km and covers 1260 square meters making it the largest volcano in Europe. It rises to 3350 over sea level at the summit craters, but this height varies as a result of on-going constructive and destructive explosive activity that constantly reshapes the summit crater area.

 

 Program

 

Meeting at 08h00 with Mandala English speaking guide and transfer by public bus to the southern side of Mt Etna (Rifugio Sapienza 1910 mt.) and start of our tour.  After the first km downhill and asphalted, begins the most challenging and difficult part of the excursion. The highest point is Monte Palestra (2020 mt.). During the trip chance to admire the huge lava flow cutting the forest at our feet. We bike on the track called "Pista Altomontana" (42 Km) that turns all around Mt Etna, linking the southern and northern side of the volcano.
At the end of the “Pista Altomontana” begins a long descent (-1300 mt.). We reach Linguaglossa, Piedimonte Etneo, Fiumefreddo, Aci Trezza and Aci Castello, before to arrive at Catania.
